Do you know what to do when there is a Code Blue? This was the essence of the hospital-wide code blue drill held recently at CVSKL involving a mock code blue simulation of a patient arriving at the basement car park and subsequently developing discomfort, giddiness, and fainting.

Code Blue is defined as an emergency situation when an individual has an unexpected cardiac or respiratory arrest requiring resuscitation and activation of the hospital alert. Upon code blue activation, a team of healthcare professionals will be responsible for performing lifesaving procedures such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and external defibrillation.

Conducting in-situ code blue drills is crucial for enhancing the team’s preparedness, self-assurance, and proficiency when dealing with emergencies. The primary goal of the code blue drill, which aimed to assess the staff’s capability in handling medical crises, was effectively accomplished, with the opportunity for enhancement pinpointed to ensure a safer environment for everyone.
